Prompting Systems Learned in SED 362
In my SED 362 course, different ways in which students can be guided to perform target behaviors have been discussed at length. There are various types of prompts, all at different levels of intrusiveness. Prompts can be implemented in patterns according to the student's level of need, as well as according to the task for which instruction is being delivered.
Full Physical Prompts
Full physical prompts entail the instructor physically guides the student through the steps to complete a task. Below is an example of a full physical prompt.
Partial Physical Prompts
A partial physical prompt entails an instructor providing some physical guidance to a student in completing the steps of a task. However, the instructor only provides physical guidance part of the way. It is up to the student to complete the rest of the step alone, without the instructor's physical assistance.
Model Prompt
A model prompt entails the instructor presenting or demonstrating the task or behavior in front of the student. Afterward, the student performs the task or behavior in the same fashion that the instructor did previously. The video below demonstrates how a model prompt is performed during instruction.
